Come gain an understanding of encaustic in a format that covers the essential techniques for sculpting with wax. Participants leap off the panel surface and approach wax as a material for assemblage and sculpture techniques. Beginning with an exploration of wax properties we will look at the way it can be manipulated from liquid to solid. Wax is transformative when combined with materials like fabric, thread, and paper. Next we will explore ways it can be successfully combined with other surfaces and objects, with an emphasis on best practices in construction and assembly. Numerous fusing and surface manipulation techniques will be presented as well as discussions on the specific tools that allow the greatest precision and control of the wax.
